Works Ministry Targets At Least 5% Concrete Pavement PDF Print E-mail

Works MinisterBentong, 21 Jun 2010 – Works Minister, Dato' Shaziman Abu Mansor launched the application of Polymer Modified Asphaltic Concrete (PMA) in Padang Tras here today.

He said under the Tenth Malaysia Plan, the Works Ministry has targeted to use at least 5% concrete pavement for new road projects and maintenance.

Today’s launching marks another milestone for federal road concessionaire, Roadcare (M) Sdn Bhd, as it has been entrusted to carry out the ministry’s PMA policy for road projects and maintenance. The selected routes comprise FT08 Jalan Bentong - Raub (Section 7.635 – 10.000), FT02 Jalan Karak – Temerloh (Section 185.10 - 186.580) and FT68 Jalan Bentong - K.Lumpur (Section 72.230 - 73.830).

Dato’ Shaziman also said that it has many advantages compared to conventional pavement especially in terms of longer life time, lower life cycle cost and ability to accommodate higher axial load. He added, “ With a high local content, it is also suitable for Malaysia’s weather which tends to have a high rainfall.”

PMA is produced by mixing natural or synthetic polymer with conventional bitumen. Said the Works Minister, “To minimise obvious damage to roads, a number of research have been carried out to determine the effectiveness of PMA’s application in maintenance works.”

More than 500 guests were at the function.

Among those present were Health Minister-cum- MP for Bentong, Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, Chairman of the Pahang Local Government, Environment and Health Committee, Datuk Hoh Kai Mun, Works Ministry’s Secretary-General, Datuk Thomas George and Public Works Department (JKR)’s Deputy Director General III, Dato’ Ar. Hamizan Mohd Inzan, Bentong District Officer, Dato' Toantowee Mohd Lotfie, Roadcare Managing Director, Dato' Hasnur Rabiain Ismail and Roadcare General Manager, Ir Jamal Dato’ Haji Nasir were also present.
